Northern Light Health Patient Service Representative in Bangor, Maine

Position Summary:

The Patient Service Representative I (PSR I) is a supporting position and is responsible for a variety of activities related to patient in-take and care. The Patient Services Representative I is generally the first point of contact for patients entering the practice. Activities may include but are not limited to greeting and checking in patients, verifying and updating insurance information and confirming other patient information, scheduling patient appointments,answering phones, updating demographic information, processing referrals,payment collection and posting, charge reconciliation, chart preparation and other duties as assigned. The PSR II may work with a fair amount of independence and serve as a resource to the PSR I. The PSR III will also be able to coordinate all components of patient appointments to include tests,surgeries and procedures and may work closely with Central Scheduling. The PSR III will be expected to work with a fair amount of independence applying logic and judgement towards the resolution of practice challenges.

Education & Experience Required:

Patient Service Rep I**

? Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required. Medical terminology certificate or completion of medical terminology course within 12 months of hire.

? Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a proficiency in computer skills with a focus on the Microsoft OfficeSuite required.

Patient Service Rep II

? Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required. 12 months, inclusive of prior experience, of clinical administrative work or graduate of a medical technology course (or other degree/certificate program completion). Medical terminology certificate or completionof medical terminology course within 12 months of hire.

? Knowledge of insurance coverage and referrals,ICD 9 and CPT coding experience preferred; a certificate of completion inmedical terminology preferred; knowledge of EMR (Electronic Medical Record)preferred.

Patient Service Rep III

? Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required. 24 months, inclusive of prior experience, of clinical administrative work or graduate of a medical technology course (or other degree/certificate program completion). Medical terminology certificate or completionof medical terminology course within 12 months of hire. *VP approval can determine relevant experience. VP can do exception to the rule.

? Knowledge of insurance coverage and referrals,ICD and CPT coding experience preferred; a certificate of completion in medical terminology preferred; knowledge of EMR (Electronic Medical Record) preferred.

Experience Preferred

A minimum of one year of verifiable customer service experience preferred; a minimum of one year of secretarial experience,preferably in the medical field; Knowledge of insurance coverage and referrals,ICD 9 and CPT coding experience preferred; a certificate of completion inmedical terminology preferred; knowledge of EMR (Electronic Medical Record)preferred.

Other Skills Required

Must be self-directed to independently and successfully handle multiple priorities. Must present a pleasant, friendly, approachable and professional demeanor at all times. Must be able to speak and read English clearly using correct grammar and vocabulary.

Physical Requirements

Sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking andstretching, hearing /verbal/visual acuity, ability to keyboard for extended periods of time.

Working Environment

The Patient Service Representative I must be able to multi-task in a busy, stressful ambulatory facility providing direct patient care. The PSR I may spend a considerable amount of time in direct patient/customer contact.
