JL Schwieters is one of the fastest growing framing companies in the state of Minnesota, with 25 crews and growing! We also recently added over 1450,000 sq ft to our Hugo facility, and opened an office in Eau Claire WI to support our current workforce in Western Wisconsin.
JLS is a complete component/pre-fab manufacturer and full building supply center. We manufacture roof and floor trusses, wall panels, stairs, fireplace/entertainment centers and many other pre-fab components. Our labor division performs the field install of these products.
What we are looking for is an Assistant Designer to a help our design team in Eau Claire, WI.
You will be assisting our designers in design work for single family homes, multifamily homes, and commercial projects. Our designers use Mi-Tek for these designs which is an CAD based software. This software is used to render three dimensional virtual models of structures. The software models are then used to provide documents for manufacturing and installation of the building components. Candidates should be eager to learn and ready to advance in a fast paced dynamic industry.
What you wil be doing (not limited too):
Gathering documents/information from file exchange sites, architect, engineers, other sub-contractors
Reviewing documents and providing summaries to lead designer
Preparing information requests utilizing Microsoft word
Documentation of information received and pending, basic schedule monitoring providing summaries to Lead Designer utilizing Microsoft excel
Software Inputs: walls, trusses, door and window openings, dimensions, notations, labeling, etc., revisions/corrections under direction of lead designer utilizing MiTek
Material takeoff/estimating of loose items i.e. blocking, sheathing rips, etc.
Outputs/report creation for manufacturing and field use. Utilizing MiTek, Microsoft Excel
A Minimum of 2-year degree or related field experience in; architectural drafting, engineering, project management, construction and similar or related experience.
Mathematical aptitude, proficient in algebra, geometry, basic arithmetic. Use of tape measure/imperial measurements
Ability to read and understand architectural and structural plans, and related documents
Professional written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work with changing priorities, multi-tasking
Ability to work in a team setting, accepting instruction/direction from other team members.
This position requires that you be able to sit/stand at a desk for extended periods of time.
General Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:00pm
