American Iron and Metal Locomotive Operator in Hamilton, Canada
The Locomotive Operator is responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services at our Hamilton site. Working in a fast-paced environment, the Locomotive Operator must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, while demonstrating a strong initiative and organizational skills.The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and have the ability to use new system platforms to document work flow. Roles & Responsibilities * The incumbent works in a team environment to provide safe and effective switching services. * Ensuring safe operation of the locomotive and train movements including conducting clear and concise job briefings and providing protection of train, track, and equipment. * Applying rules, special instructions, and switching procedures while operating as a locomotive operator including operating switches and derails, coupling and uncoupling rail cars, managing air hoses, applying and releasing handbrakes. * Completing daily inspection and testing of the locomotive brakes and safety devices. * Completing daily reports, daily logs, and other reports deemed necessary. * Complying with all applicable operating rules, switching procedures and regulations imposed by the government and AIM standards; practicing and promoting safe work habits. * Performing site track and equipment inspections including air brake tests. * Promptly reporting of all safety, equipment, and track problems. * Responsible for working with other crew members in a co-operative, respectful, professional, and efficient manner to provide safe and effective switching services. * Participating in training or company initiatives as required. * Experience as a locomotive operator or Switchperson/Conductor required * Excellent teamwork skills. * Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings and switching lists. * Physically fit including the ability to pull oneself up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis, able to lift and twist air hoses, able to secure rail car brakes, derails, and switches. * Be able and willing to work shift work including weekends in all weather conditions. * Physically demanding work in an all-weather, safety sensitive environment. * Permanent, full-time position What we offer: * Group insurance after three months * Group RRSP after six months * The opportunity to work with well-maintained equipment American Iron & Metal and its subsidiaries offer equal employment opportunities to everyone.
