Saint-Gobain Sr. Human Resources Specialist in Niagara Falls, New York

The Senior Human Resources Specialist acts as the lead HR resource for the Wheatfield, NY plant and provides comprehensive HR support for the administration and implementation of a wide range of Human Resources programs for both the Wheatfield and Amherst, NY sites. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to employee relations, benefits, recruiting, Human Resource Information Systems, compensation, training, recruiting, employee development and retention, people review and succession planning, and compliance with all applicable laws.

In addition, the Sr. HR Specialist will assist the Human Resources Manager, Plant Manager and the Ceramics Human Resources team with the implementation of strategic HR programs.

This position reports to the Human Resources Manager, Amherst and Wheatfield and will play an important role with helping the two sites to achieve business goals and objectives. This position administers a wide range of human resource programs to achieve HR goals and align with the business strategies for the Wheatfield, NY plant.

The position sits at the Wheatfield, NY site and also assists with administration of the Amherst site.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or Equivalent

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in a Human Resources role with knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws

  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

  • HRIS experience required

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and has the capability to train others in new programs, policies, processes. Ability to multi-task and maintain organization

  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite. Skills in reporting and analysis across multiple platforms. Advanced Excel skills including vlookup, pivot tables/charts, complex formulas. Proficient with report-writer tools, such as MicroStrategy, Cognos

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent preferred

  • Valid driver’s license required for business and local travel

  • Up to 25% travel for meetings, trainings, career fairs and assistance at the Amherst, NY site.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve HR programs at the Wheatfield and Amherst, NY sites and within SGP; actively work on ideas and projects to improve the HR function.

  • Manages the performance management process for the hourly/non-exempt/exempt population at Wheatfield and assists with the process at Amherst. Works on employee development through annual/mid-year Performance Reviews. Assists in the coordination /administration/ recommendations of the annual merit and incentive processes in coordination with the HR Manager, Amherst and Wheatfield. Assists managers with the development of employee IDPs. Ensures integrity of job descriptions and ensures alignment of position changes within Compensation guidelines.

  • Provides counsel to the Wheatfield site employees under the direction and with the assistance of the HR Manager, Amherst and Wheatfield. Acts a liaison for program providers and/or government agencies, resolving issues, seeking guidance, providing information, ensuring compliance with regulations to advance overall working relationships, increasing productivity, employee engagement, employee development and employee relations issues. Administers and optimizes various HR programs and processes to support the employee life cycle for Wheatfield site. Recommends training and development opportunities to address gaps identified by management, supervisors and/or employees.

  • Leads talent acquisition activities within the site and assists with the Amherst location as well. This position is responsible for ensuring sourcing and recruiting strategies align with business plans including sourcing, screening and interviewing candidates while building a steady proactive pipeline of qualified candidates within client groups; facilitates new employee orientations for the site; creates advertisements and works with corporate talent acquisition team and agencies on recruitment efforts. Works closely with internal business partners and leads the annual Workforce Planning process for the Wheatfield site.
