Leads Discovery and Optimization (LDO) is a dynamic organization that supports the entire continuum of drug discovery from lead identification to clinical candidate delivery at Bristol Myers Squibb. LDO leverages state of the art technologies, complemented by deep subject matter expertise and broad scientific knowledge, to deliver innovative and comprehensive preclinical in vitro datasets to support our drug discovery pipeline in disease areas such as oncology, immunology, fibrosis, cardiovascular diseases, and cell therapy.

The Mass Spectrometry Team within Discovery Analytical Sciences, which is part of LDO, is seeking a highly motivated analytical chemist or biochemist to fill the position of Senior Associate Scientist.

In this role, the successful candidate will have the primary responsibility to develop, validate and perform LC/MS and MALDI/MS-based assays to assist our efforts to identify hit candidates and advance the development of novel medicines. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, hands-on scientist with excellent interpersonal skills who is comfortable working in a collaborative cross-functional environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate and perform LC/MS and MALDI/MS bioanalytical assays to identify small molecule interactions with target proteins.

  • Perform data analysis and communicate results to the team.

  • Update and maintain documentation regarding procedures and methods.

  • Maintain lab equipment and instruments.

  • Contribute to the evaluation of cutting-edge mass spectrometry solutions and scientific advances.


  • M.S. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry or Biochemistry with background in mass spectrometry or B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience.

  • Hands-on skills and experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments including maintenance, troubleshooting and automation.

  • Knowledge of MS data analysis platforms (Analyst, FlexControl, MassLynx, Xcalibur).

  • Experience with high throughput mass spectrometry is preferred.

  • Ability to capture, analyze, interpret and record quantitative data and effectively communicate results to intra-departmental and cross functional teams.

  • Partake in program/project teams, as needed.

  • Experience with handling protein samples would be beneficial.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and collaborative working environment.
